In the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, a pregnant elephant was reported to be killed by a few heartless people who decided to feed the elephant with an pineapple with explosives in it. Read more to learn about this very tragic event and the response that this event has caused nationwide.
What Actually Happened?
A wild pregnant elephant was roaming around in a private area where it came across a pineapple. However, the elephant didn’t know that this pineapple actually had some crackers inside them. When the elephant chewed pineapple, the explosives triggered which led to an explosion inside the elephant’s mouth. Reports state that the elephant’s jaw broke due to the explosion.
Knowing that it can’t eat any solid material, the elephant roamed around for three days in pain where it immersed itself in a river so that it cool its body. Forest rangers have stated that the mother elephant tried to control its temperature in order to save its child from death. Even though medical aid came around, the elephant and the baby died when they tried to take them outside the water.
What Happened To Those Poachers?
As of now, the state of Kerala and other organizations haven’t been able to find these culprits behind this horrendous act. A bit of politics has spurred due to this event as some parties decided to blame each other for not having protective measures in order to prevent events like these happening.
On the other hand, some organizations like Humane Society International-India (HSI) and Wildlife SOS have put these mysterious people on their wanted list for animal cruelty where they are willing to offer ₹50,000 or ₹1,00,000 to those who bring in these culprits.
As a side note, some sources say that the people who placed those explosives are the ones who directly fed the pineapple to this poor elephant. Others stated that this pineapple was not designated for this elephant, but rather to catch or kill other animals like wild boars. Therefore, the motive of placing this pineapple in the forest has been unclear up to this point since the state hasn’t been able to grab a hold of these culprits.

The news about this poor elephant began to spread around the news and the social media when Mohan Krishnan, a forest ranger, decided to make a post regarding the elephant’s death on his Facebook page.

After his social media post, many news channels began to show video footage of the sufferings of this mother elephant along with some photos after its unfortunate death. Many celebrities from Virat Kohli, Atlee Kumar, Trisha Krishnan, Akshay Kumar, Rishabh Pant, and many more shared their condolences to this tragic event. Also, many other people in social media are also paying their respects to the death of this elephant and its baby.
